Planning for SHHS Roof Terrace and Wellbeing Hub
Great news: our new roof terrace and wellbeing hub at South Hampstead High School have been granted planning permission!
The project gives South Hampstead new on-site fitness facilities and refurbishes the roof terrace to create a special outdoor space for learning and wellbeing. It’s one of those small projects that will have a big impact, beautifully put by the school’s Head of Student Support & Academic Access:
“The new roof terrace will bring benefits to the whole South Hampstead community. Through the use of texture, fragrance, and colour, we aim to create a sensory-rich environment that supports calm and focus, particularly for pupils with anxiety, ADHD, and ASD. A central idea in planning the roof terrace space was to provide quiet, sheltered spots where students and staff can pause for a moment of reflection when needed, helping to reduce their stress levels and promote wellbeing. The lovely views, framed by trees, will offer a connection to the outdoors, encouraging curiosity and a sense of wellbeing.”
This is our second project at South Hampstead, a GDST school, after turning the top floor atrium into an urban jungle.
