In 2018 we won a competition to design a centre to treat people with depression. Sadly, the pandemic and funding complications prevented the project from gathering full steam, but we learnt a lot from a client at the cutting edge of new treatment.
The layout, materiality and privacy of the therapy rooms needed to be as comforting as possible, yet neutral so that patients weren’t distracted from their experience. Large screens could display images of nature if desired, and around the centre areas were for quiet reflection and companionship, with views out to the fields. Our aim was to create a clinic as far from an institutional feel as possible.
